regent hills
For Regent Street, our team decided to continue the theme of the original homestead entry drive established in Verrado. Regent Street is aligned so that it is anchored in the north by a mountain peak, and in the south by a potential future park. The bridge connecting this section of Verrado to the rest of the area is narrower than the street, reinforcing the feel that the area was originally intended for horse-and-buggy travel, while being updated to meet modern needs. Regent Street continues with the double row of olive shade trees motif found elsewhere in Verrado. Formal architecture will stand proud to the street with raised front porches, and some short retaining walls. To help visualize the layout and street tree program for Sunrise Lane our team came up with an innovative method to test the tree spacing interval in the field. By using large green helium filled balloons tied in clusters we were able to create life-size models of trees that were visible from key focal points and along the proposed street. The balloon trees allowed our team to accurately display how the street would look to the client and design team with the trees spaced at different intervals. Using this method the client was able to make a decision and have an idea of what the street would become when built. Capulet Park continues a look and feel very similar to Regent Street, but much more secluded. This park is designed to be simple and elegant, with a lush green town character. At the end of the park, is a rose garden celebrating the joy of the Mrs. of the homestead. Homes are sited formal to the park, with raised front porches and formal front yard landscapes. A kingpin lot anchors the park on the north and architecture is also visible to the south. Creston Drive transitions the town character of Regent Street and Capulet Park to a desert character where the homes nestle into the site and begin to emulate an organic relationship with the surroundings – less formal street presence, more native landscape character. Landscape is native in character. Coming down the hill the road aligns to an existing tree to be preserved in place in a focal point. Homes do not formally face the focal point, but rather are tucked in with the native landscape. Solano Drive follows the natural desert terrain to Solano Place. Solano Place is similar to the Creston Drive focal point, a native character park. The homes are not formally facing the park, but rather nestled into the landscape. This park will not have traditional elements such as play structures, but will feature water elements and seating areas. Solano Place features a mountain back drop and distant city light views. When Seville Drive is complete it will provide a wonderful arrival experience with openings in the formal tree lined street to the natural desert wash then a sweeping mountain view, curving around future potential Regent Park before arriving to an accent in the desert where foreground landscape frames a distant mountain peak view.
