Our client came to us asking for ways to educate the neighborhood residents on the community’s design philosophy. The task was to show how improvements on the Home can make the spaces both personal and inviting. Working within the context of the community’s different home styles our team created unique image boards, illustrating combinations of outdoor furniture, landscape design and lighting, and artistic accents, that are style specific but when viewed together create an overall palette for the community. Next a workshop style presentation was put together to present the ideas expressed in the image boards that included actual material samples and arrangement displays. The residents could not only ask questions they could see and touch many of the elements described in the presentation and represented in the images.
Some presentations address much larger and often more abstract concepts. To convey the importance parks and open spaces play in communities, the team at Espiritu Loci drew upon their work designing communities across Arizona. To help emphasize significant elements and show the relationships between open space and the communities that surround them Espiritu Loci maintains a database containing thousands of photographs of both natural and built environments not only in Arizona and the southwest but also Central America and Europe. Comparing and contrasting the new with the old, and the natural with the man made, allowed us to create a slide presentation that connects ideas across time and place.
